My first camera was a medium format twin lens reflex (TLR) which shot square format images. The square format forces a different kind of composition, thinking about a balance where all points are important and “resting” areas become extremely crucial. My Fuji X series has the option to change aspect ratios, so I forced myself to think about the square today during a visit to the museum.
